God wills that we be not carried overly low because of sorrows and temptations that befall us, for it has ever been this way before the coming of miracles — Revelations of Divine Love. Ch. 37, Julian of Norwich

I realise I’m stretching credulity by venturing into the realm of the above rubric — no more so for a hard-headed lawyer, i.e. me.

But I will say this: I’m not a hopeful guy. Hopeful in the sense that this shitshow that’s currently all across the airwaves [take your pick…] isn’t going to do a volte face anytime soon. In fact, be it the extreme climate catastrophe, the wars, invasions, threats of invasion, famine, inequality, solipsism of the Billionnaire class or whatsover, is only headed in one direction; namely, THE END!

I jest you not.

Or at least I don’t think we’re very smart by dint of the fact that the world we inhabit is a product of our thinking/doing etc. And if we wanted something kinder, more loving and less hell bent on destruction, we’d have it in spades.

And that’s where said miracles become my theme. In short, unless we have a few of those, then we’re doomed. OK, not my generation but those that follow quick on my footsteps.

As for AI, if you want to see where we’re likely headed, you could read this piece. For my part, I think it’s like letting the genie out the proverbial bottle, and be careful for what you wish for… etc.

Where does that leave us all in the meantime?

Well, in my case, running down the clock.
